About SAFE
Sudan-American Foundation for Education, Inc, (SAFE) is a registered nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization (EIN 52-1483483).
Since 1985, we have delivered over 290,000 books to more than 60 Sudanese libraries, colleges, universities and nongovernmental organizations (NGO's).
SAFE operates entirely with volunteers. Officers,directors and others volunteer their services. There is no paid staff. Financial contributions are used only to pay for operational expenses that cannot be obtained gratis. The largest of these is the cost of shipping a container of books to Sudan. Once in the country, The Ahfad University for Women arranges for transport of the books to its campus and for subsequent distribution to libraries and universities throughout Sudan and now the newly forming South Sudan.
In September 2007, we sent our 33rd shipment to Sudan. This shipment included over 10,000 books, 15,000 BIC pens, and hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies.
Books for South Sudan Universities
We are now accumulating books, educational materials, and supplies for delivery to colleges and universities in the southern region of Sudan, now becoming the new country of South Sudan. Volunteers are collecting books in the Washington, DC area, from colleges and universities in California, Iowa, and elsewhere. Whether we will be able to send this shipment of badly needed books will depend on the kinds of financial and logistical support we attract.
